How to Help Those Who Refuse to Accept Your Help

One of the given facts in life is to have the means and willingness to help others who refuse to accept this help. More often than not there are a number of reasons why most people refuse the help of others. Below are some of the most popular ones and how they can be overcome.

Pride

Pride is generally the basis for refusing help from others. It is assumed that asking the help of others means you are incapable of doing it yourself. On this occasion humility plays a big role in the mind of the helper. There is a blindness from the 'to be recipient' and it is up to the helper to realize that his own good fortune in whatever way it was attained was also given to them by someone else. In the bible God says, 'I would have mercy on who I would have mercy', this means our good fortune was not just attained by our deeds but by the Lord having mercy upon us. In that case the helper must look beyond the pride of the recipient who refuses to accept his help, be patient and offer this help regardless.

Burden of Favour

Another fear that most people have in receiving help is the burden that comes from owing the helper a favour. Most people are weary of the debt they owe once they receive help from another person. They do not want to be saddled with this burden for the rest of their lives and would rather go without. It is at these times that the helper must learn to appease them of his good intention. The helper must also be willing to commit to offer this help for free irrespective of the circumstance. The helper must be content with the fact that God knows his actions and would repay him in time whether it is directly from the recipient or not.

Self esteem

Sometimes people refuse help because they have a low self esteem of themselves. They do not count themselves worthy of the cause that is being put forward for them. It is at this time that the helper must be willing to identify with the recipient, allay their fears and concerns that this help doesn't come from any one person but from the greater good that is God. We are all children of God and should we choose to help each other then he is working through us to reach his own. No one is a lost cause until the Lord decides.

Failure to comply

People also tend to refuse the help of others because they believe that with this help comes standards, terms and conditions that they are incapable of complying with. The concern is that their freedom would now be controlled by another individual. Here the helper must be wise in what he offers. The helper must be willing to listen and understand but avoid being taken for granted.

There are several other reasons why people could refuse help be it personal or otherwise but most of these reasons often stem from the four mentioned above. The important think to note is that the helper should not be weary in their willingness to give but be wise to make sure their help is not abused.
